The Violins was an installation under the umbrella of Leslie Ting's What Brings You In project that ran overnight for twelve consecutive hours during Toronto's Nuit Blanche festival.
EMMA provided the custom hardware design and fabrication needed to get miniaturized sensors invisibly installed into the instruments, as well as the software stack to bridge the violins into the lighting board and sound system.
Visitors are invited to sit across from a violin, pick it up, and whisper it their secrets. The violins control the lights and music in the room, turning a collective act of vulnerability into a collaborative instrument for strangers to play together.
EMMA was on-site for installation and maintenance during the Nuit Blanche run.
